MS. STONE: I'll turn it over to George McNeil, our town moderator. The

meeting will be run under the Danby town meeting rules. Thank you all for coming.

MR. McNEIL: My name is George McNeil for those of you who don't know.

I'm the moderator for the Town of Danby. As the chair of the select board said, this will be run

under the town meeting rules. We have a couple of announcements I'd like to get out of the way.

First, the most important one, is that there are cookies and soda being sold in the back of the

room to benefit the Christmas fund for the children of Danby. I did that under pain of death

from Bobby McLellan. The second thing is we would like everybody to take a seat even if

you're in the back of the room because we're under fire marshal coding laws. There are 230 seats.

We are only allowed 240 people in the room. If we exceed the seats, we will get in a lot of

trouble. And we have set up outside a video television cam system and that's being handled by

Scott Switzer who is over here, so you will be videotaped. If anyone has a problem with that, I

guess you should let us know now. I don't know what we could do about it, but. I'm going to --

the process we're going to use is first we're going to have a presentation by OMYA and then

we're going to take questions. You raise your hand, I'll recognize you. All the questions,

according to our town rules, go through the moderator and then we'll find someone to answer the

questions. We have a plethora of professional people that should be able to answer almost every

question that you have. Questions that relate to Danby are appropriate. So the only other thing

I'm going to do now is read the warning and then I'm going to turn the meeting over to the people

from OMYA. "Notice of special select board meeting." This is a revised notice. That "the

residents of the Town of Danby, County of Rutland and State of Vermont are hereby warned and

notified of a special meeting of the Danby Select Board to be held at the Danby Town Hall at

Danby Four Corners in Danby, Vermont on September 26, 2000 at 7 p.m. This is an

informational meeting to discuss and hear from the residents and citizens of Danby regarding the

proposed OMYA calcium carbonate quarry off Old Otis Road in Danby, Vermont, done at

Danby this 14th day of August, 2000." I want to reiterate that this is an informational meeting

for the citizens of our town. That does not mean we will not take questions from people who

may be in the room from other towns, but we're going to ask you to wait until the end before we

take those questions. We are going to try and get the questions from the citizens of Danby first.

At our regular town meeting we always ask if there are anybody in the audience who does not

live or pay taxes or is a resident of Danby, would you raise your hand?

AUDIENCE: (Indicating.)

MR. McNEIL: So, all of you, if you choose to ask a question, we're going to ask

you to wait until the end and then we'll take those people also. We will ask you to state your

name and that you are a citizen or a taxpayer or a resident of the town. There are still plenty of

seats up here. We need the seats filled before we -- so, I come from a catholic school background.

Everybody sit up front. Okay. There are seats in the front. There's a whole row over here.

There was a whole row over here. At our regular town meeting we're always down there so this

is pretty cool. I didn't realize how far you can see up here. So we'll get started. I'm going to introduce,

first, the president of OMYACorporation, John Mitchell, and then they will make

their presentation to -- on the subject. So, okay. John.
