Active ingredients:
01.1500% 5-Chloro-2-methyl-3(2H)-isothiazolone (CAS#26172-55-4)
00.3500% 2-Methyl-3(2H)-isothiazolone (CAS# 2682-20-4)
5-Chloro-2-methyl-3(2H)-isothiazolone and
2-methyl-3(2H)-isothiazolone occur together in the currently registered
products in approximately a 3:1 ratio and are commonly referred to as
methylisothiazolinone.
Methylisothiazolinone exposures may lead to skin sensitization or
allergic contact dermatitis (Contact Dermatitis, 1994 Oct 13)
All of the following information for this active ingredient is
taken from the EPA Document "R.E.D. Facts Methylisothiazolinone" which you
can access at: http://www.epa.gov/oppsrrd1/REDs/index.html#A
Methylisothiazolinone has been shown to have moderate acute
toxicity by the oral and inhalation routes. Is highly acutely toxic when
applied dermally or to the eye and is considered to be corrosive.
Methylisothiazolinone is moderately to practically non-toxic to
birds, and moderately to highly toxic to freshwater and estuarine/marine
organisms.
5-Chloro-2-methyl-3(2H)-isothiazolone is susceptible to
hydrolysis, only at alkaline pH and is very mobile in most soils.
