Large-flowered Bellwort (Uvularia grandiflora) is a real rarity outside of Vermont, and uncommon in Vermont outside the Champlain Valley.   Like most of its companions at Rice Woods, this Bellwort thrives on alkaline soil in rich, often rocky woods.   It is considered an endangered species in Connecticut and New Hampshire, and is on the "watch list" in Massachusetts.   It is not known to grow in Maine or Rhode Island.   So far, there are just a few of these plants at Rice Woods.  Hopefully, as years pass, they will increase in number to form larger groups.
